Famous Kabir Dohe on Greed —

Meaning: A father cherished his daughter deeply. However, lured by the promise of sweets, the daughter rushed forward in greed. In her intense craving for the sugary treat, she completely forgot the father who provided it and the love he held for her. This verse serves as a metaphor for the soul's tendency to forget its divine origin while chasing transient worldly pleasures.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the presiding deity of the Kali Yuga is greed. Just as brass is polished to mimic the luster of gold, the greedy individual adorns themselves with superficiality and pretense. They wander through the corridors of power and prestige, masquerading in vibrant colors to hide their inner void, mistaking external validation for spiritual worth.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the presiding deity of the Kali Yuga is greed, which has amplified the desires of the human mind. Man spends his existence chasing material gains, akin to borrowing money on high interest; he becomes so entangled in the ledger of worldly accounts and acquisitions that he forgets the ultimate spiritual debt, losing his inner peace in the pursuit of transient wealth.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that when a human is liberated from greed, attachment, and the intoxication of ego, they find a profound, solitary wholeness. He emphasizes that the Divine does not reside in social hierarchies or ritual purity, but within the marginalized and the humble, for without the complete surrender of the ego, one can never truly encounter the Eternal.
