Meaning: Kabir asserts that if a teacher lacks true inner realization and merely imparts rigid, stony, or rote knowledge, they cannot lead the seeker. Similarly, if the disciple fails to discern and seek a genuine guide, relying instead on superficial credentials, they will never cross the ocean of worldly existence to reach liberation.

Meaning: Kabir warns that if one remains tethered to a false or pretentious guide, they must renounce that attachment without delay. Failure to do so prevents the seeker from discovering the 'Shabd' (the primordial sound or divine truth), leaving them to wander aimlessly in a cycle of spiritual confusion and ignorance.

Meaning: When a seeker anchors their wandering mind in the shelter and guidance of a true spiritual master, the restless nature of the mind transforms into absolute stillness. The mental turbulence ceases, and the seeker reaches a state of equilibrium where thoughts neither arise nor depart, leaving only pure, unwavering consciousness.

Meaning: Kabir warns that when a spiritual guide is blinded by ignorance and the seeker is equally devoid of discernment, the result is catastrophic. When the blind lead the blind, both inevitably stumble into the traps of time and illusion, failing to ever reach the light of ultimate truth.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that one who fails to find a complete, realized Master and instead relies on fragmented or superficial teachings becomes a pretender of spirituality. Such a person adopts the external costume of an ascetic (Yati), wandering from door to door for alms, while remaining internally void of true liberation and trapped in the illusion of ego.

Meaning: When a bound soul seeks guidance from another who is equally shackled by worldly illusions, liberation remains elusive. True freedom is attained only through the service and surrender to the 'Nirbandh'—the Unbound Absolute—who exists beyond Maya and attachment, capable of severing all spiritual chains in an instant.

Meaning: Kabir emphasizes that the selection of a spiritual guide must be made with utmost caution and discernment, much like one filters water before drinking to ensure purity. If a seeker accepts a guru blindly without critical reflection, they risk spiritual derailment, potentially remaining trapped in the grueling cycle of eighty-four thousand births and deaths.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that an ideal Guru is one who seeks nothing—neither material gain nor psychological validation—from the disciple. Conversely, the ideal disciple is one who offers everything—their ego, prejudices, and entire existence—to the Guru. This sacred bond is predicated on selfless love and absolute surrender.

Meaning: If one fails to truly embody the essence of the Guru or become a genuine disciple, the deceit and ego residing within the heart remain untouched. Such a person endures endless suffering and futile struggles, for they have attempted to navigate the ocean of existence upon a 'boat of stone'—a metaphor for relying on illusions and rigid dogmas rather than spiritual truth.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that those who possessed the courage to dive deep into the waters of existence found the ultimate truth. Conversely, those who remained paralyzed by the fear of the turbulent currents and the unknown depths stayed on the shore, forever missing the divine realization.
