Meaning: Kabir employs a sharp irony here, suggesting that claiming to be a servant of the Divine while remaining enslaved to worldly desires and ego is a contradiction. True servitude is not found in verbal declarations of devotion, but in the actual mastery over one's lower instincts and the annihilation of the false self.

Meaning: Kabir suggests that while ghee is pure and beneficial, oil can stain the face. Similarly, a conflict with a true saint or a realized soul is preferable and more beneficial than a friendship with a wicked or ignorant person, as the former leads to truth while the latter leads to spiritual decay.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that worldly wealth and temporal fortunes cannot liberate a soul from the cycle of birth and death. Only through the sight and association of a true saint—a realized soul—can one navigate and cross the turbulent ocean of worldly existence to reach liberation.

Meaning: Kabir suggests that if repeated attempts to reach spiritual enlightenment have failed, one must now shift their approach and commit fully to the path of true devotion. For a seeker, this human birth is a precious, fleeting opportunity to transcend the cycle of rebirth and realize the ultimate truth, making this life meaningful.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that those who rely solely on the external measurement of time—counting months, days, or years through ritualistic observance—cannot overcome the fear of death. The true devotee is one who transcends the linear constraints of time to merge with the Eternal Divine, thereby gaining the spiritual audacity to challenge Yama, the Lord of Death, recognizing the immortal nature of the Atman.

Meaning: Kabir warns that time is an unstoppable force and the moments of life are slipping away. One must not procrastinate in the pursuit of spiritual awakening and self-realization, for the cycle of time and death is inevitable, and this precious opportunity for liberation may not return.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a true seeker is one who remains unhindered and undeterred by worldly obstacles, attachments, or the ego. Only those who persist relentlessly in their quest for the divine vision and spiritual truth are the ones who eventually attain the fruit of liberation and ultimate salvation.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that an encounter with a true saint or an enlightened soul is never fruitless. He urges the wise to realize that 'darshan' is not merely a physical meeting, but a spiritual transmission where the seeker does not return empty-handed, but enriched with the seed of awakening.

Meaning: The tree of true knowledge bears fruits of wisdom and offers the cooling shade of peaceful words and thoughts. In this world, true saints—those who have transcended the ego—are rare; most people remain consumed by the burning fires of worldly attachments and superficial rituals.

Meaning: A truly altruistic person is one whose very being is imbued with coolness and serenity. Such an individual possesses the power to extinguish the fires of suffering and agitation in others, transforming their turmoil into the vibrant hue of peace and divine love.
