Meaning: Kabir asserts that one who has mastered the four Vedas but failed to cultivate a heartfelt love and longing for the Divine (Hari) has gained nothing of value. Intellectual accumulation without emotional devotion is a sterile exercise. While the simple-hearted, like Kabir, have already attained the ultimate truth through love, the learned scholars remain trapped in the labyrinth of scriptures, searching for a truth that cannot be found in ink and paper.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the Brahmins who claim to be the teachers of the world are not fit to be the teachers of a true seeker or a saint. They have become so entangled in the complexities and rituals of the four Vedas that they have effectively died to the living truth of spiritual realization.

Meaning: This couplet addresses the tragedy of those who disregard the guidance of a true spiritual teacher. Kabir suggests that ignoring the wisdom of the Guru leads one to remain trapped in the cycle of ignorance and suffering, eventually facing the spiritual consequences of a life lived in darkness and ego.

Meaning: Maintaining enmity or resentment toward one's neighbor leads to the gradual erosion of one's own peace and happiness. Those who pride themselves on being overly scholarly or ritualistically pure become so rigid and obsessed with external purity that they filter their water meticulously, losing the essence of natural living to the grip of spiritual arrogance.

Meaning: Kabir observes that the scholar spends his entire life lecturing others and preaching righteousness, yet he remains completely ignorant of the mysteries within his own heart. He attempts to enlighten others and guide them toward truth, while remaining blind to his own internal void and the lack of self-realization.

Meaning: Kabir observes that humans spend their entire lives accumulating others' wealth or seeking external validation, while neglecting and consuming the fertile field of their own inner spiritual wealth. In the end, while attempting to please or impress the world, they find only bitterness and emptiness, as if their mouth is filled with dry sand.

Meaning: Kabir observes that as long as the night persists, the stars and the moon boast of their brilliance and grandeur. However, the moment the sun rises, they vanish from sight. This serves as a metaphor for the human ego, which feels dominant in the darkness of ignorance but is instantly dissolved by the dawn of true spiritual knowledge.

Meaning: Kabir suggests that those who believe they are secure in the cold comfort of ignorance or worldly illusions are mistaken. When the sun of spiritual realization rises, these veils vanish. Just as water cannot be contained in a cloth bundle, the illusions of the material world cannot be held onto forever.

Meaning: A person spends their entire life visiting pilgrimage sites and bathing in holy waters, yet eventually meets death without liberation. Though they chanted the name of 'Ram' mechanically, they never realized the Divine within; consequently, the inevitable force of Time drags them away into the void.

Meaning: Kabir observes that people build temporary wooden shelters in Kashi and drink its pure waters, believing that the mere act of residing in a holy city guarantees salvation. However, he asserts that liberation is not a product of geography or ritual; it is attainable only through the remembrance of the Divine Name and true inner devotion.
