कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि मैं ईश्वर (राम) की महिमा का बहुत अधिक वर्णन करूँ, तो मैं अहंकार या अतिशयोक्ति के डर से घबराऊँगा, और यदि मैं उन्हें छोटा या सरल बताऊँ, तो वह झूठ होगा। मैं वास्तव में राम के बारे में क्या जान सकता हूँ, क्योंकि मैंने उन्हें अपनी भौतिक आँखों से कभी नहीं देखा है।

Meaning: Kabir expresses a profound spiritual humility, stating that to describe the Divine as 'heavy' or immense would be an act of presumption and fear, yet to describe the Divine as 'light' or simple would be a falsehood. He concludes that he cannot truly claim to know Ram, for he has never perceived the Absolute with his physical eyes.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि कलियुग के इस कठिन समय में लोग भय और असुरक्षा के कारण अनेक प्रकार के बाहरी आडंबर और कर्म कर रहे हैं। परंतु जिन्होंने अपना हृदय केवल उस एक निराकार परमात्मा (एक) से जोड़ लिया है, वे पूरी तरह निश्चिंत होकर परम सुख और शांति की नींद सोते हैं।

Meaning: Kabir observes that in the chaotic era of Kali Yuga, people are driven by fear and anxiety, engaging in countless superficial rituals and desperate actions to find security. However, those who have anchored their hearts to the One—the singular, formless Divine—attain a state of absolute fearlessness and sleep in the lap of eternal peace.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि एक ऐसी स्त्री जो अपने धर्म और सत्य के प्रति समर्पित है, भले ही उसके वस्त्र मैले हों और वह गले में कांच के सस्ते टुकड़ों की माला पहने हो, वह अन्य सभी सखियों के बीच उसी प्रकार चमकती है जैसे सूर्य और चंद्रमा की आभा पूरे ब्रह्मांड को आलोकित करती है। आंतरिक पवित्रता बाहरी आडंबरों से कहीं अधिक मूल्यवान है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a woman devoted to her truth and spiritual duty, even if her clothes are soiled and she wears a necklace of cheap glass beads, radiates a brilliance that surpasses all others. अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि इस पेट की भूख और भौतिक इच्छाओं के कारण पूरा संसार दिन-रात तड़प रहा है और दुखों में जल रहा है। जब मनुष्य के भीतर 'स्वामी' बनने का अहंकार या स्वामित्व की भावना सिर पर सवार हो जाती है, तो उसकी बुद्धि नष्ट हो जाती है और उसका सिर केवल एक बोझ बनकर रह जाता है, जिसका कोई वास्तविक आध्यात्मिक उपयोग नहीं बचता।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that because of the hunger of the belly—representing insatiable material desires—the entire world suffers in a perpetual state of agony and restlessness. When the delusion of ownership or the ego of being a 'master' takes over the mind, the intellect is eclipsed, rendering the head useless for any true spiritual discernment, leaving it as a mere physical ornament without purpose.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यह कलियुग का समय दूषित हो गया है, जहाँ सच्चे संत और आत्म-साक्षात्कारी मुनि दुर्लभ हो गए हैं। वर्तमान समाज में केवल लालची और लोभी लोग ही हावी हैं, और विडंबना यह है कि समाज में सम्मान केवल उन्हीं को मिल रहा है जिनके पास भौतिक संपत्ति और सांसारिक प्रभाव है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that the current age (Kali Yuga) has become corrupted, making true saints and enlightened sages nearly impossible to find. In this inverted morality, those driven by greed and avarice dominate the social landscape, and ironically, respect is accorded only to those who possess material wealth and worldly influence.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मनुष्य की सारी चतुराई और बौद्धिक अहंकार उसके शरीर रूपी पिंजरे के भीतर ही सोए हुए हैं। वह दूसरों को सुधारने या उन्हें भ्रमित करने का प्रयास करता है, लेकिन वह स्वयं के वास्तविक स्वरूप और अपनी आंतरिक अज्ञानता को पहचानने में पूरी तरह असमर्थ रहता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that all human cleverness and intellectual pride lie dormant within the cage of the physical body. The individual spends their entire existence attempting to guide, correct, or deceive others, yet remains utterly blind to their own true nature and the depths of their own ignorance.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मनुष्य का मन अहंकार और भ्रम के कारण फूल गया है, जिससे वह स्वयं को कर्ता मानने की भूल कर रहा है। वह लाखों बाहरी कर्मकांडों और रीति-रिवाजों के बोझ तले दबा हुआ है, लेकिन अपनी वास्तविक चेतना को जागृत नहीं कर पाया और भ्रम के जाल में फंसा हुआ है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that the human mind, inflated by ego and delusion, mistakenly believes itself to be the sole doer of actions. Burdened by millions of external rituals and superficial religious practices, the individual remains oblivious to their true consciousness, wandering lost within the labyrinth of illusion.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिसने वास्तव में परमात्मा के प्रेम रूपी रस का पान कर लिया है, उसका वह आध्यात्मिक नशा कभी समाप्त नहीं होता। इसके विपरीत, जो व्यक्ति 'मैं' यानी अहंकार के भ्रम में भटक रहा है, उसके इस भौतिक शरीर और सांसारिक अस्तित्व का कोई वास्तविक मूल्य या सार नहीं है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that one who has truly tasted the divine nectar of God's love enters a state of spiritual intoxication that never fades. In contrast, those who remain trapped in the cycle of 'I-ness' or ego are merely wandering in illusion, and their physical existence remains devoid of any true spiritual essence or lasting value.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि उन्होंने ईश्वर के प्रेम रूपी रस का ऐसा पूर्ण पान किया है कि अब उनके भीतर किसी भी सांसारिक इच्छा या अतृप्ति की कोई गुंजाइश नहीं बची है। जिस प्रकार कुम्हार द्वारा पकाया गया घड़ा पूरी तरह तैयार हो जाता है और उसे दोबारा चाक पर चढ़ाने की आवश्यकता नहीं होती, उसी प्रकार उनकी आत्मा पूर्णता को प्राप्त कर चुकी है।

Meaning: Kabir declares that he has imbibed the divine nectar of God's love to such an extent that no trace of worldly longing or spiritual thirst remains. Just as a potter's clay pot, once fired in the kiln, reaches its final form and never needs to be placed back on the spinning wheel, Kabir's soul has attained a state of absolute completion and permanence.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि अहंकार रूपी पौधा यदि थोड़ा पानी (ज्ञान) मिले तो शांत नहीं होता, बल्कि दिन-ब-दिन बढ़ता जाता है। यह ठीक वैसा ही है जैसे ज्वार का पौधा, जिसे यदि अत्यधिक वर्षा का पानी मिल जाए, तो वह पनपने के बजाय सड़कर नष्ट हो जाता है।

Meaning: Kabir explains that the plant of ego does not subside with a mere trickle of knowledge; rather, it grows stronger daily. He compares this to the 'Jawasa' (pearl millet) plant, which, despite being a crop, withers and dies if drenched in excessive rain, illustrating how misplaced effort or superficial knowledge can actually nourish the ego.
