Famous Kabir Dohe on Mind Control —

Meaning: Kabir asserts that if conflict and discord reside within one's own home or heart, claiming to be a renunciant or a seeker is futile. When a single existence is split between two opposing inclinations or contradictory beliefs, true devotion cannot possibly blossom.

Meaning: Kabir observes that a seeker often feels a superficial excitement and outward enthusiasm for the Guru's devotion. However, this person fails to cleanse the inner workings of the mind and the ego. They desire the title and status of a 'disciple' or 'servant' without undergoing the rigorous internal purification required for true surrender.

Meaning: The gateway to true devotion is incredibly narrow, allowing only those as minute as a mustard seed—stripped of ego—to pass. However, the human mind has become bloated with pride, desires, and worldly attachments, making it too cumbersome to enter this subtle portal of spiritual liberation.

Meaning: Kabir urges us to cease engaging in futile arguments and intellectual disputes. Instead, cultivate a singular, unwavering focus on the Divine Truth. By anchoring the consciousness in the remembrance of the 'Naam' (the Eternal Name/Sound), every action performed in life attains its true essence and spiritual purpose.

Meaning: Kabir observes that the world is preoccupied with the mechanical act of counting beads on a rosary, yet the inner turmoil and psychological distortions of the mind remain untouched. He urges the seeker to discard the external bead of the hand and instead focus on transforming the 'beads' of the mind—the repetitive patterns of ego and desire.

Meaning: Kabir observes that humans immerse themselves in external rituals and physical acts of devotion, counting beads on their fingers while the mind wanders aimlessly in all directions. The Divine, whom they seek externally, resides within, but because the heart has become as rigid and insensitive as a piece of wood due to ego and hypocrisy, the seeker remains blind to the internal truth.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that human consciousness and attention are hopelessly entangled in the webs of the material world and worldly attachments, causing a profound separation from the divine source. The only remedy is to bind this wandering consciousness, stabilize it through discipline, and maintain an unwavering awareness of the Eternal Presence throughout every moment of the day and night.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that if the mind is rendered completely still and anchored in a profound spiritual rhythm, one transcends the fleeting distractions of worldly desires. These attachments, though seemingly powerful like elephants and horses, are merely burdens that hinder the soul's ascent toward the Divine.

Meaning: Kabir addresses his own mind, calling it 'lowly' or 'ignorant,' stating that despite repeated warnings, it refuses to listen. He compares the stubborn mind to a merchant's ox that remains obsessively focused on the dust of the road, oblivious to the guidance of the driver and the higher destination of the journey.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that when the five senses and the sixth element—the mind—are brought into perfect equilibrium and aligned with the Eternal Truth, the seeker transcends worldly turbulence. In this state of profound integration, the external world loses its power to disturb, as the 'seven knots' of ego, attachment, and ignorance are untied, leading to absolute liberation and inner stillness.
