Meaning: Kabir observes that the day has faded and evening has arrived, symbolizing the inevitable passage of time. Many seekers of pleasure chased worldly desires, yet they remained empty. Just as a courtesan may eventually find herself barren and alone despite her many admirers, those obsessed with material lusts end up spiritually void and isolated.

Meaning: The people of this world are suspended in a shimmering web of endless conflicts and mental turmoil, where no one has truly managed to break free from the grip of illusion. Even a great yogi like Gorakhnath appears entangled in the struggle against Time and mortality; if such a powerhouse of spiritual energy is caught in the cosmic play, who among ordinary men can dare to claim the title of a 'Sādhu' or a truly realized soul?

Meaning: Kabir suggests that what is forgotten is gone, but now is the time to awaken and regain consciousness. We must sever the bonds of bewilderment and oblivion with the knife of wisdom and sift through or erase our doubts like sand, allowing the pure truth to emerge clearly.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the Divine (the Beloved/Laal) possesses an infinite capacity for compassion and courage. Even if a soul descends into the deepest abyss of 'Paatal'—the lowest spiritual depths or the most profound suffering—the Divine does not hesitate. Regardless of the complexities or the 'stuckness' of the soul's egoic attachments, the Divine reaches down to seize the soul and pull it back into the light of liberation.

Meaning: Kabir expresses a profound fear of being submerged in the depths of attachment and delusion, unable to resurface. He realizes that while he himself is drowning in the torrential current of 'Moh' (worldly attachment), it is futile and hypocritical to criticize or judge the failings of others.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that while the physical body is riddled with doubts and the mind remains volatile and fleeting, time relentlessly marches forward. However, the true essence—the soul—neither originates nor perishes. Once this eternal truth of timelessness is realized, the anxiety regarding birth and death becomes irrelevant.

Meaning: How can one attain spiritual fulfillment or liberation if they have failed to recognize the path shown by the Guru? Such a person's boat of life is destined to sink, forcing them to struggle repeatedly across the treacherous and difficult shores of worldly existence.

Meaning: Kabir explains that the three qualities of Tamas (darkness/inertia) trap the soul in a whirlpool of ignorance. He uses a botanical metaphor: just as a single piece of land can yield three distinct crops—the gourd, sugarcane, and cotton—the human condition produces varied spiritual outcomes based on the dominant quality of the mind, despite sharing the same biological origin.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that one who merely identifies the quality of stones or external gems cannot be called a true connoisseur. The real expert is one who can perceive the spiritual gem hidden within a human being—the purity of the heart and the truth of the soul.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that as long as a human remains enslaved to the flickering desires of the mind, they wander through the three realms like a restless locust. Without the realization of the Formless Divine (Hari), the soul remains lost in a cycle of confusion, eventually falling prey to the inevitable grip of Time and Death.
