कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि अहंकार और मान-सम्मान का चेहरा काला है, यानी यह अंततः विनाशकारी और अंधकारमय है। इस झूठे सम्मान को ज्ञान की अग्नि में जला देना चाहिए। जब व्यक्ति बाहरी प्रशंसा और बड़प्पन की लालसा को त्याग देता है, तभी वह परमात्मा के वास्तविक नाम और शाश्वत प्रकाश में लीन हो पाता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the face of pride and social prestige is blackened, signifying its inherent darkness and eventual decay. He urges the seeker to cast this false honor into the fire of spiritual realization. Only by renouncing the craving for external validation and worldly grandeur can one truly merge with the eternal Name and the primordial light of the Divine.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि दुनिया में ध्यान लगाने वाले, स्वयं को ज्ञानी मानने वाले और ईश्वर से कुछ माँगने वाले या आध्यात्मिक लाभ की खोज करने वाले लोग बहुत अधिक हैं। परंतु, वह व्यक्ति जिसने वास्तव में अपने अहंकार (मान) का पूर्ण त्याग कर दिया है, वह लाखों में एक होता है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that the world is crowded with those who practice meditation, those who claim profound knowledge, and those who seek spiritual or material gains. However, the individual who has truly annihilated their ego and exists without the sense of 'I-ness' is a rare find, appearing perhaps once in a million.

अर्थ: जो व्यक्ति अहंकार में डूबा हुआ है और विलासिता के साधनों, जैसे हाथी की सवारी और चंवर की सेवा का प्रदर्शन करता है, दुनिया उसे सुखी मानती है। परंतु कबीर कहते हैं कि ऐसा बाहरी आडंबर और अहंकार अंततः उसे आध्यात्मिक पतन और नरक की ओर ले जाता है।

Meaning: Those who parade their power and wealth, riding elephants with royal fans waving above them, are perceived by the world as being in a state of ultimate bliss. However, Kabir warns that such outward displays of vanity and ego-driven luxury lead the soul directly toward spiritual ruin and the depths of hell.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि केवल बाहरी ऊंचाई या भव्यता से मोहित नहीं होना चाहिए। खजूर का पेड़ बहुत ऊंचा होता है, लेकिन वह न तो पक्षियों को छाया देता है और न ही उसके फल आसानी से उपलब्ध होते हैं। इसी तरह, वह व्यक्ति जो केवल अहंकार या बाहरी दिखावे में ऊंचा है, वह दूसरों के काम नहीं आता।

Meaning: Kabir warns against being enamored by mere outward height or grandeur. The date palm tree is toweringly tall, yet it offers no shade for birds to rest and its fruits remain distant and inaccessible. Similarly, a person who possesses only the 'height' of ego or superficial status provides no spiritual shelter or genuine benefit to others.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि संसार में मान-सम्मान और बड़प्पन की चाहत वैसी ही है जैसे एक कुत्ते की प्रकृति होती है। यदि आप उसे प्रेम देते हैं, तो वह आपका चेहरा चाटने लगता है, लेकिन यदि आप उससे शत्रुता करते हैं, तो वह आपके शरीर को नुकसान पहुँचाता है। यह संसार भी इसी तरह प्रतिक्रिया करता है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that the pursuit of social status and honor in this world is akin to the nature of a dog. If you show it love, it licks your face in affection; however, if you show it hostility, it attacks and harms your body. The world mirrors this instinctive, reactive behavior toward the ego.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि ऊँट की महानता उसकी भार ढोने की क्षमता में है, जो जीवन की अंतिम सांस तक चलता रहता है। लेकिन यदि उस ऊँट की पीठ पर पारस पत्थर (एक पौराणिक पत्थर जो लोहे को सोना बना देता है) रख दिया जाए, तो ऊँट की अपनी उपयोगिता गौण हो जाती है और पारस की महिमा सर्वोपरि हो जाती है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that the greatness of a camel lies in its endurance and capacity to carry heavy loads until its final breath. However, if a 'Paras' stone (the mythical philosopher's stone that turns iron into gold) is placed upon that camel's back, the camel's own strength becomes secondary, and the transformative power of the Paras stone becomes the true center of value.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि पानी कभी ऊंचाई पर नहीं ठहरता, वह हमेशा ढलान की ओर बहकर नीचे ही जमा होता है। इसी प्रकार, जो व्यक्ति अहंकार त्यागकर विनम्र बनता है, वही ईश्वरीय ज्ञान और कृपा को प्राप्त करता है, जबकि अहंकारी व्यक्ति प्यासा ही रह जाता है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that water never remains on a height; it naturally flows downward to settle in the lowlands. Similarly, only those who embrace humility and surrender their ego can be filled with divine grace and wisdom, while the arrogant remain spiritually thirsty and empty.

अर्थ: केवल शारीरिक आकार, धन, पद या सामाजिक प्रतिष्ठा में बड़ा होने का कोई मूल्य नहीं है यदि व्यक्ति की बुद्धि और विवेक विकसित नहीं है। जिस प्रकार जंगल का एक सुंदर लेकिन निरर्थक फूल अंततः बिना किसी फल या उद्देश्य के झड़ जाता है, उसी प्रकार बिना ज्ञान के महानता व्यर्थ और क्षणभंगुर है।

Meaning: There is no true value in being 'great' in terms of physical stature, wealth, power, or social status if one lacks wisdom and spiritual discernment. Just as a beautiful flower in a desolate wilderness eventually withers and falls away without bearing fruit or serving a purpose, greatness devoid of intellect and virtue is an illusion and ultimately meaningless.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि आपने बाहरी अहंकार या सामाजिक प्रतिष्ठा का त्याग कर दिया है, लेकिन मन के भीतर की जिद और मानसिक अहंकार अभी भी जीवित है, तो वह त्याग व्यर्थ है। जो व्यक्ति संतों के सत्य वचनों को स्वीकार नहीं करता और अपने मन की हठ पर अड़ा रहता है, उसे ईश्वर की प्राप्ति या उनका अनुभव कभी नहीं होता।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that merely abandoning outward pride or social status is meaningless if the internal stubbornness and mental arrogance of the mind remain intact. One who refuses to heed the truthful guidance of the enlightened and remains enslaved to their own mental delusions will never experience the grace or presence of the Divine.

अर्थ: जब व्यक्ति बाहरी सम्मान पाकर मन से प्रसन्न होता है और अपमान मिलने पर शरीर और मन को कष्ट देता है, तो कबीर कहते हैं कि ऐसा व्यक्ति पूरी तरह से माया के जाल में फंसा हुआ है। वह अपनी खुशी और दुख को बाहरी परिस्थितियों पर निर्भर रखता है।

Meaning: When a person feels elated by external praise and devastated by insult, Kabir asserts that such an individual is deeply entangled in Maya. Their internal state is a slave to external validation, proving they have not yet realized the eternal, unchanging nature of the soul.
