Meaning: Kabir advises that one should neither indulge in self-praise nor disparage others as destitute. The volatility of existence is such that one cannot predict who, despite their current abundance, might suddenly find themselves stripped of everything, reduced to nothingness by the whims of fate.

Meaning: Kabir observes that humans often dwell on the flaws of others, laughing in mockery and superiority, yet they remain blissfully ignorant of their own internal shortcomings—a cycle of ego and blindness that is endless and profound.

Meaning: Kabir advises that one should neither inflate their own ego through self-praise nor indulge in the criticism of others. The journey of spiritual ascent is long, arduous, and fraught with uncertainty. Since the future remains unknown to all, the only prudent path is one of humility and universal compassion.

Meaning: Kabir suggests that those who criticize him should not perish but live for ages. He posits that the criticism of a detractor is actually a divine blessing or 'prasada,' as it forces an individual toward self-correction and eventually leads them to the realization of the True Guru.

Meaning: Kabir laments that his critic has passed away, leaving him without a mirror to reflect his flaws. He wonders who will now take up the courageous task of criticizing him, as he views the critic not as an enemy, but as a spiritual catalyst for purification.

Meaning: Kabir observes that while sinners are found by the thousands, a true critic or slanderer is a rare find. However, he warns that the one who habitually engages in the defamation of others carries the burden of a million sins upon their head, as the act of slandering is a profound spiritual transgression.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a dog is preferable to a habitual critic; for a dog only quarrels when provoked or present and eventually departs. However, a person consumed by anger is worse than a dog, as their rage is systemic and deep-seated, often leading them to utter vile abuses and lose all dignity, unless they are steered toward peace by the grace of a true spiritual guide.

Meaning: Kabir suggests that a critic or slanderer is like a person without a nose, yet they imagine themselves to be complete or superior. In contrast, those who are truly saintly, devoted to the Guru, and awakened in spirit do not possess the urge to criticize others, as they reside in a state of profound inner peace and equanimity.

Meaning: Kabir teaches that one must never criticize or disparage another human being, regardless of their flaws, behavior, or social standing. Instead, one should repeatedly bow to the divine spark within them. The true mark of a saint or a realized soul is the ability to see the Eternal Presence in everyone, transcending the superficial imperfections of the ego.

Meaning: If you truly claim to be a devoted disciple of the Guru, then when someone showers you with criticism or launches arrows of slander, do not react with anger. Instead, welcome the critic with honor and respect, treating their presence as a catalyst for your own spiritual growth.
