(Kabir on Ego) — Kabir Dohas

Meaning: A jackal has draped itself in a lion's skin, masquerading as a powerful predator to deceive others. However, the moment it encounters a genuine lion, its facade collapses, leaving the jackal terrified and exposed in its own insignificance.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that claiming to be a 'servant' is an arduous task because it requires the total annihilation of the ego. He identifies himself as the servant of servants, aspiring for a state of absolute humility where he becomes like the grass beneath one's feet—unnoticed, stepped upon, yet remaining rooted in its natural, selfless existence.

Meaning: As long as the ego, the sense of 'I', persists within a human being, the experience of the Divine or Absolute Truth remains absent. The moment the ego is annihilated, the Divine is realized. The path of love is so narrow that it cannot accommodate both the ego and the Divine simultaneously.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that true peace is attained only when the individual's ego and the sense of 'I' are completely annihilated, and one surrenders the false prestige of the world. Just as burning down a house plagued by constant strife ends the conflict, burning the 'house' of the ego is the only way to achieve spiritual liberation.
